Vegan Body
There are a couple places I hang around online where the dominating train of thought is that to build muscle one needs to eat meat or drink whey protein shakes or some such nonsense. This is me rolling on the floor laughing my ass off.
In 2008 I was 35, obese, sedentary, and sick. I had high blood pressure, osteoarthritis, migraines, hormonal issues, frequent colds, flus and infections, and I'm pretty sure I was in the early stages of Metabolic Syndrome. As the mother of two young daughters, I decided I needed to make some changes or they would be primed for a life of the same. I cleaned up my diet, got off the couch, and started working toward a more sustainable life.
I've tried every 'diet' out there: low carb, paleo, low fat, mediterranean, you name it's I've tried it. I've found that I do best on a plant based diet, and I prefer that term to 'vegan' which is loaded with all sorts of baggage and stereotypes. Besides, the bit of fish I eat here and there precludes me from labeling myself veg*n. But vegan food is the tastiest. :)
My hubby is vegan too and yeah, you absolutely don't need meat or whey protein to build muscle.
